I Get to Meet Judy Blume, Again!

I found out via a Facebook tag from my friend who lives in Atlanta (go figure) that Judy Blume was going to be in Santa Fe for a book signing. To which I commented, “Eeeeee!”

So I contacted my blogging buddy, Permed to Natural, who also loves Judy Blume, and we drove up to Collected Works Bookstore in Santa Fe on a weeknight. The signing for Blume’s latest book, In The Unlikely Event, was packed with all kinds of people—men and women, young and old(er).

One man asked if Judy outlined her books or just sat down and started writing. She replied that sometimes she’ll do an outline but most of the time she’ll— “what’s that term where you do it by the seat of your pants?”

It took everything I had to keep from doing this:

Instead, in a more restrained fashion, I piped up with this:

“Are you a plotter or a pantser?”

“I’m a pantser,” said Judy Blume.

It was so great getting to see one of my favorite authors ever for the second time in three years. The first time I got to meet her was at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival for the screening of her movie Tiger Eyes based on her book of the same name.

And by the way, Judy Blume is just too cool.
